Session_state stored selectbox needs to be clicked twice

Running locally Python 3.11.3 Streamlit 1.28.2 My code is this selected_headline = st.sidebar.selectbox( "Select a Headline", options=st.session_state.headlines_list, index=st.session_state.selected_headline ) st.session_state.selected_headline = st.session_state.headlines_list.index(selected_headline) For some reason I need to click twice on the selectbox to actually be able to change it.
