I am trying to pip install steamlit on Windows using python 3.8. Latest release (0.66.0) fails. I realized a fix was made at 0.53.0 and indeed it installed fine. Using a “binary search” I found that starting from 0.63.0 it failed again to install.

The error is quoted above. The reason why this issue comes up is because starting with 0.63 of Streamlit, we added Apache Arrow as a dependency via pyarrow. For whatever reason, pyarrow via pip wants to compile from source, which requires Microsoft Visual C++ Build Tools.
The install is generally a one-time thing, so once you install the compiler tools, you shouldn’t need to do anything for future Streamlit installs.

It would be good for people to generally know this. I was getting Illegal instruction (core dumped) in all virtual environments on Ubuntu 20.04.
