Draw map and color states (intensity of color based on some numeric value)?

I am trying to see if there is a way to color a map ( Coloring the whole state) based on abbreviations like CA, AZ, WA etc?
The intensity of the color should be based on a numeric value.

I think maybe what you’re after is called chloropleth map. I know Plotly and a few other viz libraries support making them.
