Installing dependency from .deb file

Hi,

My app has a dependency that is installed via a deb file rather than with apt-get. When running locally, I download the deb file from a release on Github and install it. Is there a way to install this dependency on Streamlit cloud?

Thanks!

Hey @jfl, is it possible to put the dependency in a packages.txt file instead?

Hi @jfl

Caroline was right :balloon: You need to first upload the .deb file to your repo. Next, include in packages.txt:

./name-of-your-file-on-github.deb

For example, say you upload a file called gnuplot_5.4.1+dfsg1-1+deb11u1_all.deb, your packages.txt should contain the following line

./gnuplot_5.4.1+dfsg1-1+deb11u1_all.deb

Note: if your .deb file has other linux dependencies, they too must be mentioned in packages.txt.

Happy Streamlit-ing!

Hi @Caroline & @snehankekre, thanks for the replies!

It’s good to know that keeping the dependency in my repo and installing it from packages.txt should work. Just to double check, there’s no way to run something like wget before the packages.txt dependencies get installed, right? That would be nice, as it’d avoid having to store large files in a Github repo.

Thanks again for the help!
