I’m an associate professor at Sugiyama Jogakuen University in Japan, and I use Streamlit in my teaching and research. I understand that Community Cloud allows one private app and unlimited public apps. However, some of my apps need to stay private, for example because they use unpublished research data or are shared only with specific students and collaborators.
In an earlier forum thread ( More Private Projects ), a Streamlit team member mentioned that additional private apps were available through an education program for students and educators. On the other hand, the more recent FAQ ( FAQ: Deploying additional private apps on Community Cloud ) says there are no plans to offer additional private apps.
Could you clarify:
Is the education program (or any similar option for educators) still available?
If so, how can I apply, and what are the eligibility requirements?
Welcome to the Streamlit community, and thanks for your thoughtful question! You’re absolutely right: Streamlit Community Cloud currently allows one private app per workspace and unlimited public apps. In the past, educators could sometimes request additional private apps through an education program, but as of the latest official FAQ, Streamlit no longer offers additional private apps or paid plans—even for educators—on Community Cloud. The education program for extra private apps is not currently available or accepting new applications, and there are no announced eligibility criteria or application process at this time.
If you need more than one private app, Streamlit recommends exploring alternative hosting options or their joint product with Snowflake, which supports more advanced use cases. For now, the only exceptions for increased resources are for nonprofits or educational organizations, but this applies to resource limits (like memory/CPU), not the number of private apps. If you have further needs, you can reach out via the forums, but the official stance is that only one private app is supported per workspace for all users, including educators.
