SciStreams - Interactive Science Web Applications

It’s been a month since SciStreams was launched, so thought to briefly mention the project here as 3 apps are already published & all are made in Streamlit.

SciStreams

  • Aim of the project is to help researchers by making their science more accessible through interactive web applications. Read more about the project on the SciStrems website.

Current SciStreams Apps:

  1. Maskfill - SciStreams - Python package ‘maskfill’ is a new method for filling in masked emission in astronomical images.

  2. ECLE Galaxies - Parts of research paper on long-term follow-up observations of extreme coronal line emitting galaxies.

  3. Improving the open cluster census - Interactively exploring “Improving the open cluster census” dataset

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Would be nice if there were some i (info) buttons to get more information about the different variables and choices.

Seems like there may be some issues in the rerun / looping… sometimes I would select something from say the catalog and after selecting a value, the UI erased it. Or, after I did get values in the Catalog selection, I clicked the erase button and the values disappeared for a moment and then came back.

Crazy idea, maybe summarize the information that is being shown and send it to an LLM to describe what we are seeing,

Thank you for the feedback!

I agree on having a bit more information about usage, and will make updates to these. re. looping, could be something connected to session state. Once the partial re-run or how ever it’s going to be called, it will probably help with some of the ‘blinking’.

Hard pass on LLM  - reason being: they are not able to provide factual scientific information. Though, having more text re. related science from particular paper/data/package that is used in app can be written in
